Comparing construction, colour and size
The guide ESD gloves compared puts all nine gloves side by side. How a company fits the gloves into its ESD protected area is explained in ESD protected area (EPA).
Important notes
- PPE category II for HI571 to HI573. The data sheets for HI571 to HI573 state no ESD standard and no dissipation values.
- The six further ESD gloves are not Hi5 products. The details come from the DS SafetyWear data sheet.
Frequently asked questions about Hi5 X ESD
Are ESD gloves the same as anti-static gloves?
In everyday shop language the two terms are often used interchangeably, but strictly they are not the same. “Anti-static” describes a material that hardly builds up static charge. ESD concerns electrostatic discharge in an ESD protected area (EPA), where charge is to be dissipated in a controlled way so that components are not damaged. “Anti-static” on its own therefore does not tell you whether a glove suits an EPA. Check the data sheet, the standard and the dissipation values, and ask your ESD coordinator. For Hi5, the data sheets for HI571 to HI573 state suitability for ESD environments but no dissipation values. More: ESD gloves: choosing the right pair.
Which ESD gloves are there?
Nine: HI571, HI572 and HI573 from the Hi5 X ESD range plus six further ESD gloves from DS SafetyWear (uncoated, with PU palms or fingertips, each in white and grey). All at a glance: ESD gloves compared.
Are there dissipation values for the ESD gloves?
The data sheets for HI571 to HI573 state suitability for ESD environments but no dissipation resistances. The data sheet for the six further gloves gives a typical dissipation resistance of 10⁷ to 10⁸ ohms. A declaration of conformity and further values are available on request.
Which ESD glove suits fine components?
Uncoated gives the thinnest knit and the best feel: HI571 or the uncoated ESD gloves in white and grey. HI573 and the versions with coated fingertips give more grip at the fingertips.
Do ESD gloves protect against cuts?
Only HI572: its data sheet states cut level C to EN 388. The other ESD gloves have low EN 388 levels and give no cut resistance worth mentioning.
Does an ESD glove replace the wrist strap?
No. ESD gloves are one measure among several. Grounding of the person, work surface and floor remains a matter for the ESD concept. More: ESD protected area (EPA).
How do I recognise the size of the further ESD gloves?
Each size from XS to XXL has its own cuff colour and its own article number. The table is on the individual product page.
