Touchscreen Gloves: How Displays Work with Gloves On

Scanners, tablets and machine displays are part of everyday work. Do you have to take your gloves off for them? Not with gloves that the data sheet describes as touchscreen compatible. This guide explains the technology and the limits of the statement.

How displays detect fingers

Most touchscreens work capacitively: they detect the electrical capacitance of a finger. A thick or insulating glove prevents this. Suitable gloves are thin or contain conductive fibres, so that the display registers the fingertip.

Which Hi5 gloves are compatible?

According to the product data sheets, the following are touchscreen compatible: HI511, HI511E, HI512, HI541, HI521, HI522, HI524, HI533, HI534, HI535, HI536 and HI572. All models at a glance: Touchscreen gloves.

Limits of the statement

  • The data sheets state “touchscreen compatible” but no test value. There is no separate test standard in the data sheet.
  • How well a display responds depends on the device, screen protector, glove size and coating.
  • Moisture and dirt on the glove change how it operates.
  • Test samples on your own device: request samples.

Touchscreen compatibility and protection levels are independent features. The protection values are in the EN 388 code and the chemical marking.
